Ernest Hemingway seemed very involved when he was in high school. I was surprised by all the sports that he was involved in as well as working on his high school's paper. I loved the quote he said later on in the article about the rules he learned from being a journalist and how he never forget these important rules of writing. Hemingway is also quite the hero! I couldn't believe that even though he had 200 pieces of shrapnel in his leg he still cared for another wounded solider.. that is truly incredible and he deserved that award he got for valor..
It was really sad for me when it was talking about how much the war had affected him in a really negative way and he was also really young when he was in the war..
I read the article about Hemingway's "Iceberg Theory". This artcile was very interesting and I really liked it. Basically the iceberg theory is that if the writer writes all the facts and if he does it well enough the reader is able to gather the deeper meaning without the author stating it simply. He calls it the iceberg theory because the facts are like the the top of the iceberg that sticks out above water. But the structure part is hidden under the water just like the deeper meaning is not seen plainly but is there for the reader to find. It sounds like he is an amazing author. I'm excited to start reading it.
